MLK Week is for EVERYONE. We invite all community members to join us in honoring Dr. King’s legacy by taking action to build a more just and connected society. Community involvement is essential in creating a future guided by connection, understanding, and compassion.

Join us at the Huntsman Center for the University of Utah’s Women’s MLK Basketball Game, a special event where we come together to celebrate and honor the MLK Youth Leader recipients. This game will recognize the inspiring contributions of young leaders who embody Dr. King’s legacy of service, leadership, and positive change. Come support the team, cheer for the game, and celebrate the youth making a difference in our community.

- I AM… is presented by Repertory Dance Theatre (RDT) as part of the University of Utah’s Dr. Martin Luther King Week celebration and will be hosted by the University of Utah School of Dance. RDT is also performing I AM… as part of their 2024-25 season. More information about RDT performances can be found here.
- I AM… is a story of truth. A story of vulnerability. A story of a Black woman. A story that allows one to see, feel, and breathe in the undeniable layers that expose us all to what it means to be human. Does one ever pause to truly see the life experiences of others and what these experiences have done to shape the person next to us? Do we bother to take into account that our own life experiences should be the best tool for learning to empathize, listen, support, and love more deeply? Are you part of the problem or do you choose to stand on the side of solution? And if you sit somewhere in the middle, in the shadows, you too will be exposed...

"One of the most foundational roles that civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. served in was as a religious leader. He first served as pastor at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama and then later became co-pastor, along with his father, of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to being a center of worship, what has been the role in the Black Church in the fight for equal rights? Does the Black Church of today serve as a space for inspiring and mobilizing its members?
In celebration of MLK, Jr.’s tireless work, please join us for a discussion, led by Pastor Emeritus France Davis (retired from Calvary Baptist Church in Salt Lake City), and including pastors from several Black Churches along the Wasatch Front."

- Local band Hot House West Swing Orchestra is a gem of Salt Lake City’s music scene. The fourteen-piece swing orchestra blends smooth vocals, plenty of horns, guitar, bass, and drums to create their signature swing and jazz sound. Taking inspiration from jazz legends like Django Reinhardt, their music is a whirlwind of happiness, described as “gold from the first measure to the last” by SLUG Magazine. Their joy will transport you to the wonderful world of their music, while their skill at collective improvisation will leave you in awe.

- Dream Threads Thrift Market is the University of Utah's first MLK thrift market, celebrating MLK's legacy of community and generosity. This event at the Union Building invites participants to give what they can and take what they need, free of charge and is open to all community members, clothing items for all ages available.

The University of Utah’s MLK Panel discussion, in partnership with the Hinckley Institute, is an opportunity to come together for meaningful discussion and reflection. This event features a panel of distinguished speakers who will share insights on social justice, community empowerment, and the ongoing impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s work. Join us for a brunch that fosters dialogue, inspiration, and be in community with each other.
